Solar cold storage · Cold-chain-as-a-Service

Solar-powered cold rooms that never lose the chain — for fish, produce, flowers, dairy and medicines.

10–50 tonne cold rooms from −25 °C to +8 °C, powered by solar by day and battery by night. We own and maintain it; you pay a fixed monthly fee and stop losing stock.

Who it's for

Built for products where hours matter.

Fish and seafood

Frozen storage at −18 to −25 °C for exporters, markets and processors. Frozen stock holds cold for hours — ideal for solar pre-cooling by day.

Fresh produce exporters

Pre-cooling and chilled rooms for mango, pineapple, tomato and onion — the difference between export grade and rejected loads.

Cut flowers for export

An unbroken chain from farm to airport. Premium prices depend on it.

Vaccines, insulin and medicines

Temperature-guaranteed +2 to +8 °C storage with alarms and logged data for distributors, warehouses and pharmacy networks.

Dairy, meat and beverages

Chilled and frozen rooms for processors and distributors running two or three cold stores.

Market traders and cooperatives

Shared solar cold rooms and modular solar freezers — see our work with fish traders in Freetown.

What we deploy

A cold room and its own power plant, in one package.

Cold room10–50 MT walk-in rooms, 150 mm insulated panels, −25 °C to +8 °C. Containerised or built on site.
RefrigerationHigh-efficiency compressors with daytime pre-cooling so the room's thermal mass carries part of the night.
Solar PVSized to the cooling load — from ~45 kWp for a 10 MT frozen store to 250 kW+ for multi-room sites.
Battery storage100–500 kWh LFP. Carries the overnight refrigeration load (12 hours at 60–70% of daytime load).
Coastal buildC4/C5 corrosion-rated enclosures and NEMA 4X options for Atlantic and Gulf of Guinea sites.
MonitoringTemperature logged every few minutes, alarms to your phone, remote diagnostics.
Contract5–10 year Cooling-as-a-Service agreement — or a direct purchase for cash customers, designed and commissioned by FBE.
How it works

From audit to operation.

Cold chain audit

We map what you store, at what temperature, how much moves each day, and what spoils today.

Design

Room size, temperature zones and the solar + battery plant to carry them, with pre-cooling schedules.

Delivery

Containerised systems ship 70% full — the spare space is yours for other goods at no extra freight.

Commissioning

Our local partner installs; FBE commissions against a written checklist and hands over with training.

Operation

One monthly fee. Temperatures monitored 24/7. Spoilage down 30–50%.

FAQ

Common questions about solar cold storage.

Can solar really run a freezer through the night?

Yes. We pre-cool the room during the day when solar is strongest, and a battery sized for 12 hours of overnight load carries it until sunrise. Frozen stock and insulated panels hold temperature for hours on their own.

What temperatures can you hold?

From −25 °C for frozen fish and meat, to +2 to +8 °C for vaccines, dairy and produce. Multi-zone rooms are available.

How big a cold room can I get?

Energy-as-a-Service rooms run from 10 to 50 tonnes. Smaller needs are served by our 250 L solar freezer and 255 L solar fridge units.

Is the cold room monitored?

Every room has IoT temperature sensors with alarms to your phone and a logged history you can show buyers and regulators.

Do you work on the coast?

Yes. Our Mauritania system is built to C5 coastal corrosion standards; the same options are available for Lagos, Freetown and Ghana's coast.
